Easter 2015

“Visions de l’Amen” in King’s College Chapel

Building on a previous performance from the 2012 festival, DITA Director Jeremy Begbie and concert pianist Cordelia Williams perform Olivier Messiaen’s piece for four hands, “Visions de l’Amen,” in King’s College Chapel. This work—composed on Messiaen’s release from a prisoner of war camp, where he composed the “Quartet for the End of Time”—was first performed in a secret art gallery in Nazi-occupied Paris. Mimicking the original debut, this performance premieres in the Engaging Eliot art exhibition installed previously during the 2015 festival. The performance is followed by a reception during which Professor Begbie comments on the theology of the work.
